Coriander (Coriandrum sativum) is an annual herb in the parsley family Apiaceae growing to 50 cm tall. It is cultivated in Mediterranean region of Turkey. Harvesting begins in July. Coriander seed is yellowish - brown about 3-5 mm round shape. Coriander seed has very nice fragrant seeds like lemony citrus, warm, nutty and spicy flavour.When crushed it is easily splitted.
Volatile oil coriandrol is max. 1%.
It is sifted and traded with various qualities of 0,5% - 1% impurities and according to split ratio. It is also possible to make it ground form.
Coriander seeds should be stored in a tightly sealed container away from sunlight and heat for optimum flavour.
Packing is either 15 kg. paper bags or 25 kg. nylon bags.
Coriander is consumed as a spice and ingredient of candies and liqueur and also added into the combination of some medicines and other foods to give them nice smell. Coriaander seed is used widely in the process for pickling vegetables. It is also a digester and removes stinks.
