Fenugreek (Foenum - graecum) is a plant with 3-5 mm long yellowish - brown seed, shaped like a grooved rectangle. It is a member of fabaceae family.
It is cultivated in the Central Anatolia and Southeast Turkey. Harvesting is in July. It has very distinctive strong taste.
It is sifted and traded with max 1% and max 3% impurities. Fenugreek powder is used for making a paste known as çemen in the production of a special pressed meat ( Pastırma )in Turkish cousine.
Packing is either 25 kg paper bags or 50 kg jute bags. Fenugreek is consumed as a spice and an ingredient of curry powder. It can be used in the dishes of meat, vegetables. It is useful as expectorant and believed to be an aphrodisiac.
